Asparagus with pearl barley and bacon

Ingredients
- 1.1l chicken stock
- 100ml single cream
- ⅛ tsp salt or to taste
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 30g butter
- 2 spring onions, finely sliced
- 225g pearl barley
- 30 asparagus spears woody ends snapped off and reserved
- 60g bacon lardons
- 120g frozen broad beans cooked and shelled
- 3 tomatoes, diced skinned, deseeded
Good on its own, but better with a couple of cumberland chipolatas per person.
